Piano Trio
With the support of Musica Viva Australia, we are delighted to present the Streeton Trio, comprised of Benjamin Kopp, piano; Emma Jardine, violin; Julian Smiles, cello.
Formed in 2008 in Geneva, Switzerland, from three of Australia’s leading young musicians, the Streeton Trio is the only Australian ensemble ever to be selected for the prestigious European Chamber Music Academy, where it has been ensemble in residence since 2010. Currently based in Berlin, this exciting young trio has studied intensively with some of the world’s leading chamber musicians and is highly in demand, engaged to perform extensively across Europe, UK, Scandinavia, Asia, New Zealand and Australia.
Named after the Australian Impressionist painter, Sir Arthur Streeton, the trio has received great acclaim for its performances in important venues around the world, including Wigmore Hall (London), Het Loo Royal Palace (Holland) and the Melbourne Recital Centre.
Winner of the 2011 Music Viva Chamber Music Competition, The Streeton Trio has been a finalist in several prestigious international competitions and invited to many prestigious festivals across the world. In 2012, the trio was selected as a Musica Viva Rising Stars ensemble. The trio has also been awarded scholarships from Australia Council for the Arts, Arts Victoria and the 2010 Ian Potter Cultural Trust Grant.
The Streeton Trio’s debut CD, comprising the piano trios of Maurice Ravel and Johannes Brahms, was released in 2011, and has been broadcast extensively across Australia and Europe. Since its release, the CD has received rave reviews, including, “It is quite clear that these young players have entirely identified with this repertoire—their unerring exactitude of tempo and mood is almost psychic.” (Thomas’ Music, July 2011). The Streeton Trio released its second album, “Elation” in 2012, which was immediately featured as CD of the Week on ABC FM, 3MBS, 2MBS, as well as on Radio National and SBS Radio.
“There are many accomplished recordings of this wonderful work, and this is one of the finest I have heard.”
