Australian Haydn Ensemble

Hadyn’s Emperor

Step back into courtly times of princes and patronage. We are thrilled to collaborate with Music in the Regions to present the Australian Haydn Ensemble, a leading period-instrument group which specialises in the repertoire of the late Baroque and early Classical eras. They will bring three such quartets to life. Haydn’s ‘Emperor’ quartet famously provided the melody that would later serve as the national anthem for both Austria and Germany.  A quartet by the prolific Italian composer, Boccherini, displays his characteristic lightness of touch. Lastly a quartet by teenage Mendelssohn anticipates the elfin charm much loved in his later work.
